G.I. Joe was animated by several Japanese and Korean animation studios, each with varying qualities of output, yet even the best (TOEI animation) would make mistakes. However, not all were mistakes… some bloopers were intentional. The mistakes are too numerous to list, so below are a collection of some in-jokes and goofs that I thought particularly amusing.

Duke with glasses and a mustache (Revenge of Cobra, Part 1)

I was proud to be the first person online to discover this blooper back in the later 1990s when I was on a huge screen capturing binge and just happened to be advancing frames in slow motion. As Duke’s Skyhawk is blown up, he launches from the cockpit with a JUMP rocket pack strapped onto his back and the animators have sneaked in a touch of graffiti by adding a mustache and glasses. Anyone can go check this scene if they think this is just a case of photoshop. It is not. When I originally captured it, I was using a VHS video tape copy. The capture you see above was freshly made for this article from the DVD releases. It can be found at about 2:25 seconds in, just after Major Bludd’s CLAW squadron joins the fray.
